Overview of Main Cigar Production Areas and Variety Resources at Domestic and Overseas

As a special type of tobacco products, cigars have been growing continuously since 1994. The research work of cigars in China started late and lagged behind. Due to the limitations of varieties, planting conditions and cultivation measures, the quality of tobacco leaves in China was significantly different from that of foreign high-quality cigar leaves, which could not meet the tobacco industry's demand for tobacco leaf as raw materials. This paper introduces the development process of cigars, representative production areas and varieties of different origins at home and abroad, puts forward the problems in the production process of cigars in China, and discusses them in order to provide a reference for the development of high quality cigar leaves in China.
