Breeding and Selection of New Burley Tobacco Variety Chuanbai 1 and Its Characteristics

A new burley tobacco variety Chuanbai1 was obtained by cross-breeding of Burley21 and Dasuo26. It grew vigorously in fields with well developed population. Number of leaves was high. As for main economic traits and smoking quality, it performed better than the contrast variety. It was equivalent to the contrast variety about the appearance quality and physical characteristics of raw tobacco leaf. It displayed harmonious internal chemical components with lower nicotine content than the contrast variety. It performed a resistance to tobacco black shank and Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV). It was expected that Chuanbai1 would produce greater economic effect by making a higher yield, better quality and resistance than other varieties.
