Breeding and Characteristics of a New Flue-cured Tobacco Variety Yunyan 99

Yunyan99 was developed with Yunyan 85 as maternal and 9147 as paternal. The genetic traits of Yunyan 99 were stable. The plants grew rather uniformly and strongly in the field with a tower shape. Its leaf shape was long oval. The topped plant height was 110 cm with 18 harvestable leaves. Field growth period was 120 d. The economic value of Yunyan 99 was superior to that of K326. It was moderately resistant to black shank and brown spot. The overall disease resistance was equivalent to K326. Its leaves were easier to be cured than that of K326. and had a better cured leaf quality with well-proportioned chemical composition. It is suitable for planting in the major flue-cured tobacco production areas in Southern China. It passed the Chinese tobacco variety evaluation in 2011.
